Well America, you have your king. Now what?

“Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do.” -I Samuel 8:9

It is finished. For better or for worse, the election is over and we have to live with the results. What will happen? For now, only God knows. The cynical part of me says that in reality nothing will happen because government has a way of getting nothing done. And for some reason this election cycle, people seemed to foolishly forget that as they babbled on about change. That was the most ridiculous slogan because no matter who won change would occur.

However, there is a part of me that knows history and finds eerily similarities between now and the 1930s, not from an economic standpoint because we are in far better shape than our friends 70 years ago, but from political standpoint. People who blindly followed their emotions simply cast a protest vote this year, not a vote for change. It could have been Mickey Mouse running on the theme of change and he’d have been elected. Now we deal with results and look at the possibilities. Will the president-elect be like FDR and try to pull the nation to a socialist slant? Or will he be like Clinton and go middle of the road so he can stay in power? All I know is this guy claims he’ll give me a $1300.00 tax break and now I’m waiting for it. I’m also very fond of $1.80/gallon gas that we’re having lately and sure would like to keep that.

The real story of this election cycle is how the United States was lacking on political leadership. Were these the best candidates we could muster? My gosh that says a lot about our nation. Are the days of a Jefferson, TR, Eisenhower or Reagan behind us? Apparently so, for now.

It was brought to my attention that this election is reminding people of the book of I Samuel when the Isrealites rejected God and asked for a king. God gave them their king, but before he did, he warned them what misery it would bring. And it sure did bring them misery to the point that the nation was scattered, captured and enslaved.

So many people say the voted for our new president-elect because “he’s going to take care of me.” Personally, I don’t want a president that’s going to take care of me. I can take care of myself. But now I fear that will be difficult since my money could go to taking care of those millions that just soon not take care of themselves.

Well, you have your king.

I Samuel 8:14-18

He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants.
He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use.
He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.
When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the Lord will not answer you in that day.”

God bless America, please!
