Virginia Tech Massacre

The Richmond Times-Dispatch Extra Edition

It’ll be one of those days that will live in infamy.  The shooting of nearly 60 people of which 32 where killed, will go down in Virginia and United States history as the worst.  While not on the scale of September 11, 2001 it does has the same feelings.  This morning at work, just a simple report came across the news of a person shot and killed at Virginia Tech.  One almost shrugs it off with a “oh that’s a shame”.  While driving back to work from lunch, the radio cuts in with a news brief stating that up to 22 people have been killed.  What a shock it was to hear that.  What happened?  How’d it go from one to 22???  Then as the afternoon progressed, the eyes of the world turned to Virginia has our local stations began to be carried nationally with the scenes of chaos in Blacksburg.  It is a great saddness that the Commonwealth feels right now.  The Richmond Times-Dispatch has put out an Extra edition this afternoon, something not done since September 11, 2001.

Over the next few days this event will unfold and we’ll learn more.  Then the repercussions will be with us for a long, long time.  No doubt by fall, every home football game will feature a fitting memorial to the victims.  Virginia will remember her fallen.  Prayers of course are with the families and people involved.
